Readiness is wider than data movement
A Business Central migration can be technically complete while the business is still not ready to operate. Data loading, extension deployment and user access are only part of the picture.
A useful readiness test is whether a normal business day can be simulated end to end across master data, approvals, purchasing, sales, inventory, finance posting, reporting and required external systems.
What to validate before cutover
Technical readiness should cover environments, extensions, integrations, scheduled jobs, permissions and deployment steps. Business readiness should cover balances, reports, approvals, month-end tasks, training and support ownership.
- Opening balances reconcile and are signed off.
- Critical reports match agreed outputs.
- Custom extensions are tested against realistic data.
- Support owners know what to do on day one.
